The United Rentals 300 at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday is the first race of the season, and the defending champion of the NASCAR Xfinity Racing Series, Cole Custer, leads the field going into race day qualifying on Friday morning. After been run as the Beef for the previous three races, the event now has a new title sponsor. What's for supper? 300. Having won the previous two races, Austin Hill will cross the finish line first in 2023 under caution during overtime ahead of John Hunter Nemechek, who is currently a full-time driver in the NASCAR Cup Series but will be competing on Saturday as a part-time driver for Joe Gibbs Racing.

Custer's victory at the Xfinity Series Championship in Phoenix last November was his maiden series title; among the Championship 4 drivers, Justin Allgaier finished third and Sam Mayer fifth. As the race went into overtime, Nemechek led for sixty-six laps and finished in 28th place. There are five rookies competing, one of whom is Hallie Deegan, who has won the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series most popular driver award the last three years. Together with Shane van Gisbergen, Dawson Cram, Leland Honeyman, and Jesse Love, the ARCA Menards Series winner from the previous year, they are all returning to the circuit.
