Daytona International Speedway's single-car qualifying on Wednesday will determine the starting lineups for the qualifying duels on Thursday. Forty-two cars will compete for forty spots in the Daytona 500.
Single-car qualifying on Wednesday night sets the lineups for Thursday's Bluegreen Vacations Duels at DAYTONA. The Daytona 500 is the official opening event of the NASCAR Cup Series. The qualifying procedure lasts two days. The starting lineup for The Great American Race's 66th iteration on Sunday will be determined by those duels. Of the 42 entries, 36 are guaranteed seats in Sunday's field due to their chartered status. Through the duels, four non-chartered drivers will gain positions. Seeking his first Daytona 500 victory, Ryan Blaney, the reigning NASCAR Cup champion, leads the field. In 2020, he came in second, and in 2017, he came in ninth, trailing only the inaugural victor, Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

The Duel order will be determined by Wednesday's qualifying, with Thursday's Duel 1 featuring the cars that finish odd on the speed chart (first, third, fifth, and so on). The Duel 2 field is composed of even-finishers. The trick is that Sunday's inside rows are determined by the remaining competitors in Duel 1, with the winner starting on the pole. On Sunday, the Duel 2 field is arranged outside but in finishing order.
There will be driver points awarded to the top 10 finishers in each duel, but no playoff points. The non-chartered drivers vying for a spot in the race are David Ragan, BJ McLeod, Anthony Alfredo, and seven-time Cup champion Jimmy Johnson. The driver of the No. 44 vehicle, raced by NY Racing Team, is still unidentified.

Joey Logano lost to Stenhouse, who won the race the previous year despite caution. The Daytona 500 has had 12 different victors, with Richard Petty setting a record with seven checkered flags. The driver with the most Daytona 500 victories among active competitors, Denny Hamlin, emerged victorious from the exhibition Clash at The Coliseum on February 4.
